with "s" and the velar remains a plain velar.
The Romanian does not allow "sg" but "zg" ( as I ponted in another
message) whous the root as showed by Albanian was with "s": *sgardV ( V=
/e/ or /a/) > sgardã in Rom. and *sgardV >shkardhë.
The Schönheitsfehler would be the Alb. "k". I am not aware if the
phonetical interdiction of Alb. is "shg-" thus this is why there is
"shk-". Maybe Abdullah will help a bit here.
But is the root here *gher-, or g^her-?
