The reduced variant <(j)e> of *(j)estI is very widespread in Slavic. You
can find it e.g. in Slovene, Sorbian, Czech and Slovak, Kashubian, and
in Polish dialects. For obvious reasons, function verbs often undergo
irregular simplification.
