That seems very sensible. I looked at the home page description of
this group and found, "Discussing matters of Indo-European history,
linguistics and culture - Member of The Indo-European Database."
It seems to me that Indo-European history is valid discussion. This
would, of course, include Balkan history. So even though some of it
gets a little boring, it seems to belong here. OTOH, some of it,
especially if accurate is also interesting.
Perhaps it is ironic that linguistics is listed as the second item in
the statement of purpose of this group. Perhaps this group has grown
to the extent that the historians and linguists could branch.
Nothing stops anyone interested in both subjects from participating
in both (possibly new) groups, except perhaps the moderator(s).
Since the founder of this group does not directly participate any
longer and since Piotr's (more than fair) moderating duties may be a
little limited without full control, perhaps starting another group
with a focus of linguistics would be justified.
I know there was an attempt at Nostratica. However, it seems to me
that the focus and some control was quickly lost even though some
very knowledgeable contributors tried and presumably are still trying.
I am not a significant contributor here, but I do read the list with
interest. Generally, I try to post in proportion to my knowledge,
which I think is good general advice.
