Subject: [tied] Historical implications of Romanian ecclesiastical
terminology
....
Would the word for Christmas be acceptable ("Craciun")
or is this something of later origin?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
According to Pacurariu/pg. 74, the etymology of the word [specific to the
Romanian language] CRÃCIUN is still obscure [and there is one page full with
hypothesis/mainly 2 are important: 1. lat. CALATIO; 2. etymon CREATIO, in
vulgar lat. CREATION, CREATIUN].
BTW, the word is used only by the people and is not to be found in the
official vocabulary/books of the church.
P.S. If you read in Romanian, I can sand you the pages/12 pages/ from
Pacurariu regarding the ecclesiastical words.
