No, according to H. Pedersen, if I remember this well, but I know
that such thinking was also supported by Besim Bokshi, this *-i is
some kind of relic of the o-stem nom.pl.ending *-oi, even an *oi
diphthong derives in Albanian an /e/, but it may be that in open
syllable and in the end of the words, to derive an /i/.
This *-i is supposed to cause palatalization in the names ending in -
k, -g: plak 'old man', nom. pl.(through Umlaut) pleq < *pleki <
*plekoi; zog 'bird', nom. pl. zogj < *zogi < *zogoi.
