"Exactly how" is anyone's guess, but if the historical cradle of the
Albanians was in the highland areas of what are now Kosovo and northern
Macedonia, their language may well derive from that of Dacian colonists and
evacuees on the right bank of the Danube, in Moesia Superior. There might
have been other contributions: for example, the Carpi, according to
Jordanes, raided Moesia as allies of the Goths in the third century. But all
that is highly speculative. The safest bet is that the slightly Romanised
Moesian Dacians = Proto-Albanians.
