seeing just the Latin word I am not sure which one you are meaning
aes/aeris = "air"? or do you speak here about aes/aeris = " Kupfer,
Erz"?
the way you write the root should fit more the aes/aeris= air and not
that metal. At least I have here these roots:
for air:
*ajes, compare "ae:nus" aus "*ajes-nus" ( see Sansk. "ayas", Gothic
"aiz")

for metal: *aios see the older name of Cyper ( Ajasja)
aenus=a(h)e:neus.
should it have something to do with the Thracian city Aenus (
inhabitants= Aenii:) or this is just a simple coincidence?
Which one do you mean now? Copper or air? The way to write the root with
laryngials make me a bit trouble:-))
