Oh, by the way: does the Gothic "ana-" mentioned by
Alex also have this meaning? AFAIK, in German there
is no word based on "an-" +"neu" (but e.g. "erneuern").
OTOH, there is "anzweifeln" < an- + [zweifel+n]. So,
was there any kind of old Germanic "ana-twi-"?
