In Romanian, feminine singular "picătzea",
plural "picătzele" has a similar meaning
(small spots).

Both this word and sg. "picătură",
pl. "picături" (drop, droplet) are derived
from the participle "picat" of the verb
"a pica [pi-'ka]; picare" (to fall; to collapse.
In most of the cases synonym to "a cădea;
cădere").

OTOH, "pic" also means "picătură" (drop/let).
