to Cimochowski, these forms are older while <ete/etje, etja> are
analogical (after the variant <et> from *ed, with final devoicing).
He derives the word from *h2aidHos 'fire, burning' (perhaps an
original *-es- neuter like Gk. aitHos).

This embarras de richesses is what makes Albanian etymology so
devilishly difficult (and fascinating -- just contemplate the way
*wi-dk^m.tih1 changed into <-zet>).

Thanks a lot. From Vaclav Cimohwski until now we have only
translated version of the booklet "Albanian language", even it was
ready to be published before the war his masterpiece "Dushman's
Idiom". As far as I am aware this book will be published this year
and I will not only read it, but I will eat it. Also I have read one
of his best study "The Position of Albanian in IE Languages" (I
forgot exactly the title) one kind of silent polemics with Hamp's
study.
