As far as I know and understand, the various Australian language families haven't been proven to be related to each other, much less to anything outside of Australia. If there was such a language/family as Proto-World, that is probably the closest relationship that any of the Australian languages have to Nostratic (or Dene-Sino-Caucasian or Amerind or ...). Besides, I was under the impression that this is more of a (Proto-)Indo-European list. If you like, I can post the message I will be sending to the Nostratica list instead of sending it to you privately.

Andy,Thanks. But doesn't Australian and the languages contained within fit into Nostratic?Gerry----- Original Message -----From: Andrew HoweySent: Monday, March 17, 2003 9:20 AMSubject: Re: Re[4]: [tied] How should Nostratic be viewed?Gerry:
Funny you should ask. I anticipated this question and am in the process of preparing a list of the Australian language families (and the languages contained therein). I will send it to you later today off-list since we seem to have gotten way off-topic.
