It was just lapsus calami for STRANGLER.
phoenix and sphinx "the monster with bird legs" are not Latin words and, as I know, sphinx could be dated much later then oleocen!

Dear Abdullah, the Greek Sphinx had the paws of a lion and the head of a woman. It only had the wings of a bird.
