Strange for me to agree with Miguel, but I thought - probably wrongly - that
English voicing began at the release of the /d/, so that technically it is
unvoiced. It differs from an unaspirated /t/ in being lax rather than
tense, and this is what native speakers often hear, rather than the voicing.

Do correct me if I'm wrong (though I'm sure no one on this group needs
encouragement to do that).
