*seres- makes sense as an potential IE word, but the basic meaning 'pool, pond' (+ 'trough' etc.) for <saras-> is what is actually documented in Sanskrit, and so an explanation of <sarasvati:> along these lines must be given preference before any sort of conjectural analysis (even if it's my own :-)).
