genuine proto-stuff -- like the word for 'king' in Slavic (*korljI),
which almost certainly is to be identified with Charlemagne's name.

I recall you proposed to divide early North Germanic society into
earls and churls once; might in that case the latter not be derived
from a similar source (obviously they are not PIE cognates) as
*korljI?
