Yes, it would appear that during the "Orientalising" Phoenician
period in Greece, Hercules was equated to Tyrian Melkart (Melek Khart
= King of the City aka Baal). Baal as the slayer of Lawtan thus
became associated with Greek Hercules, who performed the equivalent
on Ladon.
