Odd. Y'all have just discussed, by some coincidence, two words
containing an unwanted dental suffix, <salt> and <word>. One might
even connect them by the alternation t/dH. Suppose they are both
derived from verbs meaning respectively "pickle, preserve, spice"
(considering the "sweet" connection) and "speak?
