Jutish (sometimes compared to Northumbrian) today is full of
palatalised velars before front vowels, alternating (in separate
registers) with standard Danish non-palatalised velars. As a young
man I had a job in a ministery filing sent-in claims for compensation
for losses incurred because of a new zoning law; the Jutland kommunes
of Skjern and Gjern tended to prefer the names Skern and Gern, the
former being "correct" forms of the dialect they wanted to distance
themselves from (today everyone accepts them).
