In the nineteenth century Maspero suggested the Shardana
among the Sea Peoples that attacked Egypt in the Fourteenth
Century BC came from (or by way of) Sardis and ended up in
Sardinia. I don't know of any findings since his time that make
this any more (or less) plausible.
Alex, if you think these people navigated to Serdica, why not?
Other SVrd places to consider are the Sarda River in India,
Serdobek in Russia, Sered in Slovakia, and Sardalas in Libya
(deep in the Sahara). Ponder the second syllable in "absurd"
also.
