*****GK: Your "Celtic" analysis of Vologesus sounds
quite plausible. For what it's worth: Tacitus in his
Annales (XII.44) notes that the Parthian monarch
Vologesus (son of the Median Vonones who took over the
Parthian throne ca. 48 or 49 AD after a "time of
troubles") was born of a "Greek" concubine. By the
1rst c. AD the Galatians of Asia Minor (Celtic
migrants from Thrace) had become Hellenized. But
perhaps old Celtic names continued in use. If the
"Greek" concubine of Vonones was a Galatian, we might
have an explanation for the appearance of "Vologeses"
among the Parthian royalty. But of course, that's just
one hypothesis, and does not rule out alternative
explanations, including "accidental lookalikes".*******
