I assume 'Tudor' in Romania to be a coincidence or a recent borrowing.

Tell me more

It may be a coincidence, a recent borrowing is excluded. So far I remember the name Tudor is first recorded in the time of  Ottoman Empire but as feminine Tudora, this one beeing the wife of the king Patrashcu the Good One . The time is aproximately ( maybe 20 years wrongness-quote) 1550. The name was supposed to come from Theodorus, but it could be too from the gothic Theodoric. I am not sure what to say about, never tought about..

best regards
