Perhaps a silly thought but when I consider examples such as
"ahead" where "h" is voiced even though it isn't universally,
the whole "Were laryngeals voiced?" conundrum seems a little moot.
Why couldn't they have been voiced in at least some medial positions
and unvoiced in others? Is allophony such a strange thing?
A question: So *poih- is supposed to be "Pre-IE", is that it?
Should we be reconstructing *po:- for IE itself?
