Bomhard doesn't have a
partridge anywhere in his list of 600+ roots, and *k'ur- is listed
as:
290. PN *k'ur-/*k'or- "crane" >
PIE *k'er-/*k'r.- "crane"; PU *korka "crane"; PD *korku "crane"
I personally prefer Bomhard's
reconstructions because they do factor in the glottalic stage of IE,
but they're not perfect. They're a bit too slanted in favor of PIE in my
opinion, and I'm not sure about reconstructing labiovelarized and palatized
velars. Also, the vowel in Uralic and Dravidian points to a reconstruction of
*k'or-, not *k'ur-, using his own rules. I'm "correcting" the vowel ambiguities
right now.
I sure wish I had the material to do
my own evaluation. I also can't seem to get on the nostratic sister list;
nobody's approved my membership yet.
