Actually, the branches do not correspond to the mutations, but to the entire
populations of given regions. Therefore this type of analysis is rather
useless when we want to reconstruct the history of particular lineages
(especially when we expect that migrations in different directions took
place in the past).

Yes, this is exactly why this type of analysis can not be used to prove or
reject my hypothesis.
But analysing other figures and tables from Semino Underhill papers would
quite helpful.
