Just a word of caution for the sake of those list members who are not familiar with Romanian orthography and its fairly numerous recent reforms: <î> and <â> stand for the same sound (high central /I/), and immediately after the fall of Ceausescu (whose rule was associated with general preference for <î> except in <român> and its derivatives) the spelling <â> came to be regarded as official almost everywhere except in specific environments (word-initially or finally) and in a number of special cases.

Romanian român (+ românesc, românca) is a late, artificially Latinised form, emphasising the Latin etymology of the word. The regular phonological development of <ro:má:n-> in Romanian was <rumîn> with the historically normal change of pretonic o > u and of stressed pre-nasal a > î (the original form of the adjective was actually <rumînesc> with the borrowed suffix <-esc>, cf. Rus. rumynskij).
