Linguists have absolutely nothing to say about them. Linguistics is about language, not fireplaces. I said that the evidence is debatable not because I am qualified to discuss archaeological findings (are you?) but because from my reading of the relevant literature I get the impression that the evidence _is_ debated by specialists.
