This thread illustrates the value of a newsgroup like this where
people from different disciplines can meet and exchange views and,
occasionally, cause each other to see beyond the boundaries that
specialization tends to create.

For Indologists interested in the Indian Urheimat (whether for or
against) the horse is central because the Vedas mention the horse
many times. So if there is no horse in India, there is no Indian
Urheimat.

For those interested in the broader PIE Urheimat, and who don't
consider the India-centric theories, the horse is not so important,
as the posts from the linguists here illustrate.
