<be> comes from *bHoidH-ah2, cognate to Lat. fi:dere (*bHeidH-), fide:s (*bHidH-) and to Germanic *bi:dan 'await' (*bHeidH-). It is unrelated to the *bHendH- 'bind' root, from which <besë> apparently derives (via *bHendH-s-ah2).

Also <be> means 'oath' in Albanian. <bëj be> 'swear'.
