3. The Gothic words for wine and olive bother me. (E.g., wein, sn. OE, OHG,
win; Lat, vinum.) Why would Gothic borrow these words from Latin, given
where the first real life contacts would have occurred for the Goths at
least. Perhaps, over many generations, the source of borrowed words simply
changed.

[Moeller says:]

Steve, i smile a bit at your question but not in an irronically way. I smile
very serious because I assume as fallow.
The goths must known about wine at least at the time they arrived in Dacia
if not eralier.
We have to take a look into Romanian Dictionary and we will see that the
rumanians use just a word for wine and this is "vin".
Ethymologicaly this word is assumed to be borrowed from latin "vinus" like
in gothic.. So?
Is there not a wonder? The rumanins use vin ,the goths win ( iguess the
pronounciation is like in german) and we cann asume that is there a latin
form?
Who cand tell me this is NOT the dacian form?No one. And i swear, even Piotr
will keep himself back here.

But you gave me an ideea.. I should like now to read Ulfila's bible for
trying to identify rumanian words into this one.. And if we find it......
there will be a big question.. ..A very big one, i guess...

Best Regards,

A. Moeller
