It's a different word. PIE *h2ste:r (PGmc. *ster-n-o:n-, Greek aste:r, etc.) survives as Vedic {stR}/{ta:r}, a defective irregular noun, cf. nom.pl. ta:raH < *(h2s)ter-es, instr.pl. stRbHiH < *(h2)str-bHis, and in derivatives, cf. ta:ra:-patHa- 'starpath' (a kenning for 'the sky'). A better preserved form (<sta:r->) occurs in Avesta.

How does *xhste:rs 'star' become naks.atra, 'star' in Sanskrit? What is the significance of the prefix na-?
