Greek Legendary Giant "Talos" = Minoan Sun God?

As to Talos being a Minoan sun god, that would be half-
reasonable from his sunlike attributes (bronze surface, making
himself hot), and his Cretan habitat. I'll now track down words for
"Sun" in some different language families to see if I can find a
possible match to *tal-.

One good starting place is http://iiasnt.leidenuniv.nl/ -- it has
collections of protoforms for several language families,
including IE itself. For IE itself, also check http://
www.bartleby.com/61/ (the American Heritage Dictionary).

Many of the Indo-European languages have derivatives of *
sa:wel- like English "sun", Latin "so:l" and Greek "he:lios"; this is
likely *seH2w-el- at least according to the AHD, where -el- may
alternate with -en-. This is clearly a rather poor match.

Checking several possibilities over at http://starling.rinet.ru
revealed a few matches of similar quality; the closest I could find
was Sino-Tibetan *tak, "sunrise, light" and a Tungusian form, *
dilaD-. North Caucasian had no matches.

However, under "light", I found a North Caucasian root for "light,
ray" that was something like *sVlV- (might have been the source
of Greek selas "light, brightness"; that is likely a borrowing after
Greek's *s- > *h- sound shift).
