******GK: And here's a site which argues the opposite
point of view (i.e. Goths as a "local" not "imported"
phenomenon), but gives no specific arguments:

The only thing which I find odd is that the French
abstract unlike the English and German speaks of a
"processus d'immigration". But otherwise the approach
is reminiscent of recent archaeological methodology
which replaces "demic" by "cultural" "waves of
advances". I confess to not always being convinced by
this methodology.
