One would think English has a scholarly etymological dictionary of
given names, but I've certainly never seen nor heard of one. There are
limited works, as with what you get in a bible appendix, and of
course, those baby-name books, which give very little information, or
even wrong information. A polyglot dictionary, along the lines of what
João is attempting, seems not to exist.
The interesting thing about this apparent lack of such a work is that
it would be highly marketable, both as the big monster hardback or
as cheap paperback abridgements -- and in multiple languages.
