Still, it would be hard to demonstrate that it is an extension of 'sit'. It could well be a case like Latin colere, where the semantic development was 'move around' (*kWelh1-) > 'tend, till, cultivate' > 'dwell in (a place), inhabit'. As opposed to <idti>, which suggests linear movement at a definite moment, <xodit'> implies movements at indefinite moments and in changing directions. In this respect the verb is similar to *kWelh1-.

See Sreznevsky's dictionary, III, 1381. No prefixes, no (as far as I can see) 'find' connotations.
