But Slavic *xod-/*s^Id- does NOT mean "ride in a wagon". It strongly implies walking, i.e. going on foot, as OPPOSED to riding in a vehicle; and the very idea of "walking by sitting" seems self-contradictory to me. Not that I know how to explain this word.

It's also tempting to derive, eg, *xod- :*s^Id- 'walk,go' from *sed- 'sit' > 'move sitting in a vagon', and, if I recall, other (few) examples of possible *s- (not only *sk-) > *x- do exist.
