This has nothing to do with speaking IE or
non-IE languages. I don't divide people into educationally privileged Westerners
and poor benighted savages who haven't had enough opportunities but may still
"come around" in the end. Baku, for your information, is a big and
well-developed city, and its university was established in 1919. I know many
first-class linguists whose first languages are "exotic" from a Eurocentric
point of view, and we have all seen very similar moronic excesses perpetrated by
speakers of European languages on this list (I will mercifully omit the
names). Quite simply, what this man (with an academic degree) does is NOT
linguistics but chauvinistic pseudoscience.

Why is it that these speakers of exotic languages are OK as informants
but when they get
uppity and start doing their own brand of linguistics,
they have to be rebuffed? There's no need, they'll come around eventually (I
hope).
And BTW, what _is_ that island doing in
"Île-de-France"?
