There is a clear example elsewhere in the Hebrew Bible, where some prisoners
are sacrificed and buried beneath a wall for good luck. And in Rome the
first emperor, Augustus, tried to play down his sacrifice of several hundred
prisoners to the deified Julius Caesar...

Human sacrifice dies out surprisingly late!
