Dear Mark & Glen,

Read Bibby's In Search of Dilmun and you will find that Dilmun's civilization was contemporary with 3rd Millenium Mesopotamian city states of Sumer and Akkad and their development probably paralleled each other back into the 4th Millenium.

There is strong evidence that eastern Arabia had an oasis civilization and supported a large population, drying out sometime in the mid 2nd Millenium.  Unfortunately there are no written records, just archaeological finds inland from the Arabian Sea.

It is likely that there may have been much more regular rainfall and ample groundwater than at present.  Bibby's research led him to speculate that  the Arabian plate has been in a constant uptilt that reached a tipping point in historical times.

Your Sumerian-Elamite family of languages might have included at least some of the languages of Dilmun and the Arabian Coast.
