Is [ü] the same as [y]? The diphtongs /Ei/ (ij, ei), /Öü/ (ui) and
/Ou/ (ou, au) have a tendency to open their first element towards
[äi], [Äü] and [Au] (while the monophtongs /e./, /ö./ and /o./
diphtonguize towards [ei], [öü] and [ou]). The middle Dutch
pronunciation was [dü:tsk] or [dü:tsx], ultimately from *Tiudisk-.
