In Trajan's time, I suppose the Daci were {dac^i} (or, locally,
perhaps even {datsi}?). Several medieval writers (e.g. Dudo) equate
them with the Danes. This is of course not so etc. etc.,
although "Odin" must have passed close by them.

But how do you explain Russian {datskij} "Danish",
{datc^anin} "Dane"?
