That's why I thought of “touching iron“ more logical than “touching wood“! In a certain way, one is discharging that “bad energy“, but in my opinion, wood doesn't seem too suitable for that purpose, unless your not “earthing“, but “storing“ or “passing“ it to the tree or wooden object (something it does seem suitable for)

I like your passing it on idea. Is this a memory of the times when to touch wood REALLY meant to touch a tree? Makes sense when you think of the way trees are rooted into the ground [or should I say Earth] the way they are. And, following on from this is Glen's [I think it was him!] contribution on the link this might have with the World Object, Yggdrasil or what have you.

Have you heard of the possibly related practice of swearing oaths by "Stick , Stock and Stone" [by extension the entire cosmos]?
