scholarly standards.

Piotr, as ever, is being polite. Out-of-India fundamentalists are
quite analogous to Mormons and their view of New World archaeology, or
to Christian fundamentalists and 'Scientific Creationism'.
The linguistic and archaeological evidence points to the Indics coming
from Central Asia. The Hindu nationalists ignore this evidence, much
as Christian bible-thumpers and Mormons ignore archaeology and
geology.
The 'OIT' proponents fall into the same trap as Renfrew. They accept
as gospel that the IE languages are indeed all descended from a common
ancestor, but reject the metholodology that allows one to make this
assertion in the first place.
