The cause of death of Oetzi, the ice man of Italian Tyrol, has been
determined. It was by arrow-shot. Clearly, tho', he got away; his
extremely valuable (both then and now) arsenical bronze axe survived
with him, along with his other weapons, all his clothes, and tool kit.
We got ourselves a European Chalcolithic mystery here.
If you look around on the news sites on the net, you can catch the
article. I quote from AP via the Washington Post (link below; it will
expire soon):
--start quote--
The arrow tore through nerves and major blood vessels,
paralyzing the left arm and shattering the shoulder
blade, said researcher Eduard Egarter Vigl. It ended
up about 3 inches under the shoulder near his left lung,
Gostner said.
The Iceman probably lived a few hours at most after he
was shot.
