Yes, it's the same thing that I called "apical". "Alveolar" refers to its place of articulation (the alveolar ridge) and "apical" to the active articulator involved (the tip of the tongue).

When I was a child , I remember the last sound  I've learnt to spell was trilled alveolar R (is it the same you call apical?). I couldnt spell it. I spelled it as l or rr (uvular R), it was very difficult to trill.
Now, fortunately, I spell it very well.
