Sorry. NOT "yesterday", which seems to be reconstructable as *g^Hjes- instead (cf. Skt. hyastana-). The "thorny problem" has several case-specific solutions rather than a single general one.

... my personal opinion is that *g^Hs- or *gWHs- should be admitted as the source of ks.- : khth-/phth-. One such case is the "yesterday" word.
