There might be an interesting blood-group connection here. I once
read that the Icelanders have the highest occurence of blood-
group 'O' in Europe, and Irish have the second highest. However the
British Isles in general, increasing from east to west, (myself
included), western Norway and Denmark also record a high incidence of
blood-group 'O'. Further afield this 'O'bloodgroup arc streches into
Iberia, Italy and even Greece. I'm not sure what all this means but
maybe someone can expand on this. Incidentally on my one and only
visit to Iceland I was struck by by how Scandinavian the people
looked; I wouldn't say they resembled the Scots or the Irish in
particular.Admittedly this is an unscientific
generalisation.
