Do we have to be a little careful about the connection here? English
requires the dummy element more now than it did in Shakespeare's time, but
it was just as analytic then as it is today. We can even see an increasing
expectation of the dummy forms in our own lifetime - forms such as "has he
any money?" are now less common than they were forty years ago - yet it
would be an overstatement to say the language was becoming more analytic.
