You're welcome. Actually at least half of my references are on the
internet. The rest is various Danish museums. There is a long
archaeological tradition here. But being a small language area is not
good for the spreading of your views, especially if you compete with
e.g. German researcers. I suppose the same applies for many Eastern
European languages.
Leaving people behind was not especially a Germanic practice. Some
people left, some stayed home. Their reason for leaving may have been
the coming of the Huns. Most of the people who left for the States
left people behind, and they weren't all Germanic.
