Hugh is my ancestor...
An extremely interesting experiment would be to test the genealogically attested descendants of Hugh Capet, in the direct male line (including acknowledged bar sinisters). There would of course be some suprises, but it is certain we would get a snapshot of HC's Y-chromosome. I wonder what Luis Alfonso (by primogeniture, the (legitimate) heir-male of HC) and the rest of the Capet clan would say to such a request.

Mark.
Umm. Hugh Capet has lots of direct-male-line descendants, and that's the point of this posting.

I do wonder which side of the blanket Joao makes his claim, but this is a rude question unless it's a many-generations-removed sort of thing. Acknowledged royal/imperial bastards do have a certain status.
We are speaking of direct father-to-son-to-son ... descent: pure Y-chromosome.

I do know considerably something about European definitions of royal-noble-etc qualifications.

I won't ask if Joao is properly allowed to be called a Bourbon.

So, Joao. How do you think Luis Alfonso responds to the demand that you and he give blood to prove your descent from Hugh Capet?
