Yspaddaden may be a corruption of ysbydd "hawthorn," which likely comes from a P-Celtic *Spiiat-o (note Irish sce "hawthorn," gen. pl sciad from Q-Celtic *scuiiat-) from PIE *sk(h)uoi-/*sk(h)ui(i)- "nail or thorn from a plant."
The etymology would then be Common P-Celtic *Spiiatenos
